The German Baptist influence in a Virginia region has given a museum and institute success in recording its past.
For over 30 years, Ferrum College’s Blue Ridge Institute & Museum has documented the folkways of the people living in and around the Blue Ridge Mountains. The facility, for instance, recalls the year 1800, when a 30-mile trip took a day or more to complete.

As a young girl, I spent summer days with my grandmother. We enjoyed many hours together in her hot, steamy kitchen putting up fresh fruits and vegetables: green beans from her garden, blackberries picked the night before from my uncle’s back field, corn picked from friends’ fields, and more. One of my jobs was to seal and label the bags. After I had prepared a stack, Granny would tell me to take them to the back room, where she had two large chest freezers, and put them away. I’d trudge back there with a laundry basket full of bagged food and open a freezer, trying to find a home for each bag.

The New Hampshire House of Representatives passed HB 228 Wednesday by an overwhelming margin of 207 to 147, prioritizing state-controlled family planning dollars away from abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood. The funding is prioritized to public and private entities that provide comprehensive health care to women and do not perform abortions. The bill's language, inserted as an amendment by Rep. Warren Groen (R-Rochester), was developed by the Alliance Defense Fund and the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List). The bill now heads to the State Senate.

Egypt (MNN/ODM) ― 11 months ago, the spark of revolution ignited in Tunisia. Within weeks, the first regime tumbled.
What followed in the next few months was the toppling of other repressive governments. The season of protest was soon dubbed "Arab Spring." The movement changed the landscape of the Middle East and North Africa and sent shockwaves around the world.
