Believers Challenged to Embrace Christian Identity Above Political Affiliation

A noted Bible teacher and animated host of a radio and TV program challenged those in attendance of the Answers in Genesis Mega Conference to reconsider the way in which Christians position themselves in the cultural battle.

Todd Friel, host of Wretched Radio and Wretched TV, spoke on "The Homosexual War” Tuesday morning at the conference teaching on creation and biblical apologetics. Friel said it is critical Christians understand their identity as followers of Jesus Christ comes before political affiliation.

“My encouragement is to be involved and lets be aware of what is going on,” said Friel. “We’ve got an amazing blessing to live in this country and be engage. Let’s be sure we engage they way they did in the Book of Acts, proclaiming Jesus.”

Friel argues Christians have an important message about same-sex marriage, but sometimes that message of hope gets lost in how it is presented.

“In the first century they condemned homosexuality, but they didn’t leave people in the dirt,” said Fried. “They also proclaimed Jesus and gave them hope and forgiveness of sins and change the Mediterranean world. I think we should just get back to that pattern. We still proclaim the laws of God, what is sin and what is not, but then talk about forgiveness in Jesus. So, I just say lets talk about issues and engage, but lets frame them in context of the Gospel – which is what we should be about.”

Set in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, at the Sevierville Event Center, the Answers Mega Conference runs through Thursday, July 24.
